Clayton Henry Alexander (he/him)
Clayton Henry Alexander is a South African actor, voice artist, screenwriter, and director. He is represented by the MMM Agency for on camera roles and works as a voice artist at ContentLab/Transperfect Media. His passion for film work has lead him to co-found a production company “1LP Films”, in which he serves as lead screenwriter, a project director, an executive producer, and an occasional photographer.
Clay was born and raised in Johannesburg. His enthusiasm for the dramatic arts first took hold during his high-school’s inter-house play festivals, and was solidified when he participated in the National Eisteddfod competitions, winning over 10 awards across three years. His performances in inter-school productions led to awards in the EADS (Merit Award - Supporting Actor) and RAPS (Best Supporting Actor 2010) festivals, with the 2010 play also recognized as the overall top production at RAPS in that year. His natural talent did not go unrecognized, earning him his Full Colours in 2009 and 2010, and culminating with a special award of the Contribution To Culture Trophy in his final year.
Clay moved to Cape Town in 2014, following a string of personal tragedies that left him needing to start from scratch. An open mind and solid work ethic proved invaluable in the years to come. Taking every opportunity to learn new skills, he grabbed the best restaurant job he could, while wedging his foot into the film industry door. Unable to find a decent work-life balance and deeply unsatisfied with life in the service industry, he decided to double-down on the things he loved doing and committed himself to working in film as the only way forward. The following years would see him leveraging his hard-work ethos and willingness to learn, over time leading to some moderate successes, landing work in a wide variety of productions and positions including: ‘FBI Agent Connelly’ in Wanted Dead or Alive* (*upcoming), ‘Pigeon’ in Lipton Iced Tea’s Save Our Summers TVC, ‘Dad 2’ in Tali’s Joburg Diaries, ‘FE Pirate’ in Kraken Gold Rum’s A Tale of Gold TVC (stunt - ratchet pull), ‘First Mate Thearle’ in Around the World in 80 Days (2021) (uncredited), ‘Hero Dad’ in ErsteBank’s The Neverending Story TVC, an ‘SFPD Officer’ in Warrior (Action Extra, Body Double, Stand In), and a ‘Culling Victim’ and ‘Van Der Koy Soldier’ in Boy Kills World (Action Extra).
In 2024, Clay began working as an in-house voice artist, dubbing over 4000 lines of dialogue in the first few months in a variety of accents (notably US Standard and UK RP). His prominent voice roles include ‘Marcel Larcher’ in The French Village, ‘Tsuburu’s Dad’ in Oi Tonbo!, and ‘Huseyin’ in PROJECT SWIFT (TRT).
Clay considers the continued pursuit of knowledge and self improvement as a deeply valued part of his life and has completed courses in as many things as he's found time and availability for.
In 2023, Clay co-founded 1LP Films, a production company focused on delivering niche narrative content, with the ethos of creating a platform for would-be professionals in the South African film industry to grow and showcase their talents. This also gave him the space to branch out into new areas of the film industry, including screenwriting, directing, producing, and photography. 1LP’s debut short ITCH completed post-production in 2024, with the upcoming IRON WILL and Almost (a love story) rounding out the companies current short film project-slate.
He currently devotes any spare time to his role as a dedicated dad to his daughter and two cats.
