Born and bred South African, Chad Nolan Bergstedt, better known as Chad Nolan, is a singer/songwriter from Cape Town. The Alternative Pop recording artist and musician began his musical journey in 2011. He performed with a band comprising himself and a few of his close friends, which performed at numerous shows including charity events, functions and carnivals. In 2014 Chad performed at shows which featured Idols South Africa winner Jodi Williams and the late Zayn Adam, amongst other local talents before leaving the band to pursue a solo career in 2015. Backtracking to his early life, Chad grew up in Kuils River in a very music-orientated family with his father playing drums in church and his mother who sang and played piano. Chad’s stage-name was chosen as a gesture to honour his father, Nolan, who assisted him during the early stages of his music career when he had trouble finding a drummer. His mom, Jenny, is also a singer/songwriter who Chad considers the biggest role model in his life.
Chad’s love for music was sparked in 2008 when he performed at a charity event. It was then that he decided to pursue a career in music after school but prepared himself by developing his skills in playing piano and guitar in church. “I faced tough times at the start when my band and I had to do what we could with faulty equipment. I just knew we had to keep pushing and improving our skills so that when our break came, we would be ready.” After separating from the band, Chad started writing songs to experience a musical independence and to find himself as an artist. Inspired by artists such as Bruno Mars,
Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran and Adele, to name merely a few, Chad has been recording original material and working with R&R Media
to progress his solo career as a musician. Chad’s debut single “Closer” was released in September 2017 and climbed the charts on some local radio stations, enjoying third position on a Top 40 music chart. It debuted on 5FM and has been play-listed by a plethora of stations. He has since released his second single “Try” which drew sizeable audiences and support nationwide. “Music has always been a part of me and it is what I enjoy most in life. It provides boundless opportunity for me to be myself and to share
that with others through song. It takes me to a place where I’m in my own world and nothing ever bothers me.” In terms of upcoming plans for his music career, Chad will be releasing his debut EP towards the end of the year. “I would love for my music to reach further than the boundaries of South Africa in hopes that it can inspire more people. The dream is to have my music career support me so that I can continue to do it.” “Closer”, “Try” and "Devil's Lipstick" are available on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify and other online music platforms.
