Hi, my name is Luke. A multi-talented individual. At the age of 12 is when I actually started discovering my hidden talents and started putting them to the test. I would say that is where I knew it was the beginning of a successful future for me in the art and entertainment industry. Everyone would always tell me that I am going to be a star one day, but at that point I never really thought it about it as much. 4 years after working on my dancing skills I was asked to be a part of a dance group where I performed as a contemporary dancer due to my flexibility and graceful movements. I had been a part of this group for about 5 years before I was asked to star in my first live theatre performance. And so I continued growing.
In 2012 I decided to join a modeling school as the owner of the school had asked me multiple times to be a part of the school but I never had the confidence. I was then exposed to the modeling industry and had grown so much as I had the chance to do Free State Fashion Week, Top Model South Africa and many more. I had also been cast for multiple fashion shows for young and upcoming designers. I had grown so much that I was asked to judge pageants. My first ever pageant I participated in as a contestant is where I placed winner in the teen category as Mr. Teen Free State. I then had enough confidence to enter the Mr. and Mrs. Teen South Africa where I made it through the first two rounds but unfortunately fell out. Till this day I am grateful for all the experiences and education for the huge amount of exposure I had experienced from learning runway, photographic modeling, presenting, learning to build a modeling portfolio and so much more.
During my modeling career I was inspired through the many photographers I had worked with. This is when I discovered my talent and passion for photography. I then started focusing more on working behind the camera than in front of the camera. After having done several photo shoots I had then been asked by different modeling schools to help the new models build their portfolios and I had the opportunity to collaborate with big makeup brands and designers. And so my career as a photographer took off. after a few years I had been put in a situation where a makeup artist had dropped the model last minute and that is when I found my love for makeup. Since 2015 I had fallen in love with the makeup industry. As a self-taught makeup artist, I was asked through a few well-known brands at the likes of M.A.C Cosmetics, Kryolan and Graftobian to freelance and at one point I was sponsored through an American makeup company to present a makeup master class. During this period I had mastered the art of many different types of makeup but being the risky person I am I had decided to follow the route of theatre, special fx, drag and fantasy makeup as these types of makeup allowed me to express my creativity on a higher level and to challenge myself. This point my alter ego Ivanna Versace was born. A fierce drag artist. I was privileged enough to have been asked by a makeup school to give a short class on makeup and to share my wonderful talent and knowledge.
Forward to 3 years, I had suddenly become interested in the hairdressing industry. I found a talent I knew I would never poses. That is when my career as a barber and stylist started. Working under the mentorship of Eric Way Lovemore, I had seen doors fly open one after the other. I was entered in competitions, styling hair for photo shoots and even working with huge names such as Malcolm Marx, Aleit Swanepoel, Rob Van Vuuren, Tim Tebow, Demi Lee Tebow, Luke Fish and many more. I had my first article written about me when I had the privilege to cut the owner of Premier Magazine, an in-flight magazine that was available when flying international and all airports in the business lounges. Shortly after I was asked to groom Malcolm Marx and a few teammates hair for his wedding. 2 months after I found myself featuring in an online magazine with the heading 'Styling a Springbok Hero'. My recent mentions was Huisgenoot and The Insider SA.
After being able to experience working behind the scenes on TV sets and music videos I quickly understood the pressure. Today I own a successful salon and barbershop in Somerset West.
Today, I continue making use of all my talents as it was frustrating being so creative but not being able to do it all. I thank MMM Management for giving me an international platform to finally be able to share my talents with the world and grow as a talent. I like to call myself a jack of all trades and a master of all.
